About Fix 311

Fix 311 is the next evolution of the 311 System as Internet use begins to migrate away from desktop computers and more towards mobile phones. Using the GPS and camera features of the smartphones, the mobile platform has significant advantages over the current method of using online website forms. The Fix 311 software allows citizens to more accurately report on various requests including public safety issues, public works maintenance requests, cable service complaints, and even barking dogs.

We can tie to many backends via a custom API and we will work with your organization to implement the custom API based on your current services. Fix 311 was designed to integrate seamlessly with existing CRM, CSR, EAM, and GIS systems. Our system currently sends reports to 200+ cities nationwide.

Our Mission

Our goal is to create a centralized 311 system whereby a citizen would only need one smartphone App that is capable of reporting service requests to any city nationwide. The current model of requiring citizens to download different Apps for different cities only causes unnecessary public confusion.

We aim to reduce wasteful spending through cost effective use of technology. Why would each city attempt to create its own mobile solution when another city has already created a better solution? Why would each city hire an IT person to manage one city when the same person can easily oversee multiple cities? We believe that government organizations can share resources to drastically reduce costs and overhead. When we add new features to the Fix 311 software, every government organization benefits instantly. Fix 311 has been designed to help government organizations retain their customized systems and become more organized and efficient at the same time.

Open 311 Compliant

Fix 311 is fully compliant with the Open 311 GeoReport v2 standard. Open311 is a form of technology that provides open channels of communication for issues that concern public space and public services. Unlike the synchronous one-to-one communication of a 311 call center, Open311 technologies use the internet to enable these interactions to be asynchronous and many-to-many. More information about Open 311 is provided at http://Open311.org

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q. What are the requirements for using this app?

    - iPhone iOS 4.3 and newer

    - Android OS 2.2 and newer

    - Blackberry, Windows 8, & Other phones - customized mobile website for your city / county

  • Q. Can I make a report using a desktop computer?

Yes you can. We provide custom scripts that allow you to display a map on your website to allow citizens to submit reports quickly. These maps can also be displayed onto local news stations' websites.

  • Q. How does it work?

The Fix 311 software has been set up to filter out different service codes and to forward each unique report to the appropriate department. For street maintenance issues, our software can differentiate from highway roads and county roads that your organization does or does not services.

The Fix 311 App has a unique routing system that delivers the correct service request list when a user crosses city boundaries. This location awareness ability prevents citizens from sending false reports to the incorrect municipal. You can update the service request list any time and the changes are instantly viewable on the smartphones. The service request list also has the ability to set the user up to make a call for services that cannot be reported via online forms. Additionally, news feed and weblinks can also be included along with the service request list.

If you do not currently have a service request system and prefer not to receive reports via email, our web based CRM allows your government organization to manage the various cases received. Contact us for a free trial of the CRM system.

  • Q. My city has a unique situation with its borders and boundaries?

We can work with GIS data and maps to help create specific boundaries so that you will ony receive reports in your jurisdiction. For example, if you are in a very large city and have multiple precincts, we can create a boundary so that even when a report is made in your city, but the report is not in your precinct's boundary, you will not receive the report. Additionally, the Fix 311 App is able to show different service lists when the user is at different sections of the same city.

  • Q. How much does it cost?

Our fees vary depending on your needs and the size of your city. Fees are involved if you wish to add the following:

    • - Create a custom service request list for your jurisdiction
    • - Use our web based CRM system to manage cases
    • - Create a custom API to integrate with your current system
    • - Re-brand the Fix 311 iPhone App to show your logo
    • - Re-brand the Fix 311 Android App to show your logo

  • Q. What else should we know about Fix 311?

We would like to work closely with you and study the analytics to help you prioritize your needs, and we want to help facilitate the distribution of statewide funding process. Fix 311 is Open 311 compliant and is currently used in San Francisco, Chicago, DC, Boston, Baltimore, and other Open 311 cities. The easy to use Fix 311 user interface is based on 2 years worth of user feedback from the Pothole Alert App. Every button and screen is strategically placed for intuitive navigation.

  • Q. Why is my location not accurate?

One reason for inaccurate reporting is because GPS may be turned off without the user's knowledge. When GPS is off, the phone then roughly estimates your location based on nearby cell towers instead of using satellite positioning. For this reason, moving mode pothole submission is not accurate if GPS is turned off. So to fix this problem, you can do 1 of 3 things below:

    1. Turn on GPS via Location Settings on your phone

    2. Use the New Request screen to report potholes since the New Request mode allows you to change and refine your current position on the map

    3. Always check your email for a special link to comment or update your report. An email is sent out for every report made on the phone because GPS in general can sometimes be slightly off mark. For this reason, commenting on your report helps the municipal out very much.

Please note, with every phone, it takes a bit of time for GPS to boot up and locate the satellites.
